The Chemistry Syllabus for CUET UG 2023 and JEE share significant overlap.

Carousel Component

The CUET 2023 Test is going to be the means of admission into various
undergraduate programs offered by several government universities, ranging
from Delhi University (DU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU). A total of
90 universities participated in the CUET exam (2022), which is expected to
cross the 200+ mark in the 2023 edition. Candidates are given admission
offers to these programs depending on their entrance exam results
following the CUET 2023 Counseling. Candidates will have more subjects to
choose from while Registration for CUET 2023. Last year, students could
choose only nine subjects. But this year, they can select up to ten
subjects from all three parts.

  • Exam pattern
The CUET exam is conducted in a computer-based test mode and consists of
four sections. The first two sections are language tests, with 13
options for Section 1A and 20 options for Section 1B. Section 2 is a
domain-specific test with 27 subjects to choose from based on the
desired undergraduate course. Section 3 is a general aptitude test and
is the same for all candidates.
  • In Section 2
Domain-specific test, candidates can select from 27 distinct subjects
based on their preferred undergraduate program. Yes, it is true that
students who select Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in section 2 of
CUET can leverage their preparation for JEE Main to gain an added
advantage. The reason is that there is a significant overlap of topics
between the two exams, with JEE Main being conducted before CUET.
  • The chemistry syllabus of the common university entrance exam and the
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) also have significant overlap. Both
syllabi cover the essential concepts of chemistry, including:
    1. Basic concepts of Chemistry: Laws of chemical combination, atomic and
molecular masses, mole concept, stoichiometry, gas laws, and kinetic
      theory of gases.
    2. States of matter: Gaseous state, liquid state, solid-state, and their
characteristics. Phase equilibria and phase rule.
    3. Chemical thermodynamics: First law of thermodynamics, enthalpy,
thermochemical equations, second law of thermodynamics, entropy, free
      energy, and spontaneity
    4. Chemical equilibrium: Law of mass action, equilibrium constant, Le
Chatelier’s principle, ionic equilibrium, acids, and bases
    5. Electrochemistry: Electrolysis, Faraday’s laws, voltaic cells,
standard electrode potential, Nernst equation, and electrochemical
      series.
    6. Chemical kinetics: Rate of chemical reaction, rate laws, order of
reaction, integrated rate equations, half-life, and activation energy.
    7. Surface chemistry: Adsorption, absorption, colloids, and emulsions.
    8. Basic principles of organic chemistry: Nomenclature, isomerism,
fundamental concepts of organic reaction mechanisms, qualitative
analysis of organic compounds, and basic principles of biomolecules
such as carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids.
    9. Basic principles of inorganic chemistry: Periodic properties, chemical
bonding, coordination compounds, qualitative analysis of inorganic
      compounds, and metallurgy.
  • Paper pattern for Chemistry
    1. There will be 50 questions in total. Out of which candidates have to
      answer 40.
    2. The time allotted for this paper will be 45 minutes.
    3. Total marks will be 200. (+5 marks for the right answer & -1 for
the wrong answer. There will be no negative marking for the
      unattempted questions)
    4. The CUET exam will be held in the month of May and the exam mode will
      be online (CBT).

In CUET 2022, the NTA received a total of 15 lakhs (approx) applications.
