The number of MBBS seats available in India is restricted, and the competition is fierce. A candidate pursuing medical courses in the MBBS and BDS programmes must take the NEET entrance exams. Every year, the central board of secondary education conducts NEET for all India MBBS seats. Other than NEET, there are no other national level entrance examinations in India to compete for MBBS seats. The NEET scores are used to determine admission to prestigious colleges such as AIIMS and JIPMER.

The cut-off marks for MBBS seats in India are 50 percent for general categories, 45 percent for physically handicapped unreserved categories, and 40 percent for SC/ST/OBC categories.

Because the number of seats for universities that offer an MBBS in India is actually relatively low, there is a lot of competition for MBBS admission tests. The number of candidates, on the other hand, is likewise high. To be placed, you must score much higher than this score.

If I talk about India, there are about 532 government medical colleges/institutions with 76,928 MBBS seats and 9 AIIMS MBBS across the country with 727 more seats and 200 additional JIPMER MBBS seats for applicants who have qualified in the NEET entrance exams.

The total number of MBBS seats in India -UG is split into two categories: 15% for AIQ (all India quota) and 85% for state counseling quotas.

The total number of MBBS seats available in India in 2019 includes government medical and dental institutes, with 15% of seats allocated for all India quota and filled through NEETs counseling. This quota does not apply to candidates from the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The number of seats reserved under the all-India quota is estimated to be around 65000.

Aside from that, 10% of seats are reserved for the EWS economically disadvantaged group, 15% for SC, 7.5 percent for ST, 27 percent for OBC, and 3% for physically handicapped in 2020.

These are some statistics that you should keep in your mind. And you must know these procedures to go into a good medical college.
