Differences

The article highlights some of the key differences between JEE Main and JEE Advanced, two important examinations for admission to technical undergraduate programs in India. Here are the main points:

Differences Between JEE Main And JEE Advanced:

JEE Main:

  • It is a computer-based test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
  • It serves as an entrance exam for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other central/state government-funded institutes.
  • It is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced.
  • The exam is held twice a year.
  • The paper structure varies depending on the course: Paper-1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper-2A (B.Arch), and Paper-2B (B.Planning).

JEE Advanced:

  • JEE Advanced is the entrance exam for admission to the IITs, IISTs, and RGIPT.
  • It is conducted once per year by the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB).
  • A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced for a maximum of two years.
  • The exam duration is 6 hours, divided into Paper 1 (3 hours) and Paper 2 (3 hours). Both papers are compulsory.
  • The marking scheme, question types, and distribution of marks in JEE Advanced are not fixed. It may include multiple-choice single-correct answer, multiple-choice multi-correct answer, and integer type questions.

Other notable differences include the availability of the question papers in different languages. JEE Main question papers are available in 13 languages, while JEE Advanced question papers are only available in English and Hindi.

Lastly, the mode of examination differs between the two. JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is administered online, while JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch.) has an online section for aptitude and math and an offline section for drawing. On the other hand, both papers of JEE Advanced are conducted online.

These differences distinguish the purpose, structure, and administration of the two examinations, and it is important for candidates to understand them while preparing for JEE Main and considering their eligibility for JEE Advanced.
