Students often get confused about how to revise their subject better and memorise things better, so in this article, you will get to know the best techniques for revising your subjects-

  • Make notes and revise using your notes: Many students don’t make notes or don’t utilise their class notes, both of these habits are bad. Students should make neat and clean class notes and revise from them instead of reading from books. You should maintain additional information or facts in your notes instead of keeping them in separate notebooks.
  • Use sticky notes or flashcards: To revise formulas, facts, chemical structures, etc., it’s best to use sticky notes or flashcards. Instead of turning notebooks or study material for formulas, facts and diagrams, just write them on flashcards and quickly revise them. Humans remember pictures much better than text, so utilise it to the full to never miss any formulas.
  • Revise regularly: Remember the Forgetting Curve or the Ebbinghaus Curve of Forgetting. It shows how learned information slips out of our memory over time unless we revise it to keep it there. The steepest drop in memory happens quickly after learning, so it’s essential to revise the subject you’ve studied within the next 2 days. After that, regular revisions will help to reinforce it. This is known as “spaced learning.” Doing this will help strengthen your learning and improve your power of recall to remember what you’ve learned in the long term. Other strategies you can use to improve your memory are: overlearning information, making what you want to learn meaningfully, and challenging your memory regularly.
  • Mocks: Giving mock tests regularly and analysing helps us recall our revised and reinforce our memory. By giving mocks regularly, we can also keep a check on what we remember and what we have forgotten. It’s best to take subject wise and full mocks daily. You select one subject a day to practise questions and then give full-length mock tests at the end of the day.
  • Sleep and meditation: Sleep helps our brain secure the information we have collected throughout the day. That’s why sleeping 6 to 8 hours at night is the best for ensuring that we can recall what we have revised. While meditation helps us boost our cognitive abilities.
  • Set your timetable: It’s considered best to revise early in the morning. Once you revise your subjects early in the morning, you can practise questions on that subject throughout the day and reinforce your memory.
