Getting admission to top engineering institutes through JoSAA Counselling
2023 is an exciting journey for aspiring students. This online admission
process includes renowned IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other-GFTIs.
Following are the ten essential points about JoSAA Counselling 2023,
explaining the registration process, seat allotment, and the NIT+ system.

1. JEE Advanced Qualification: To participate in JoSAA Counselling,
candidates must qualify for JEE Advanced 2023.

2. JEE Main Rank Lists: The JEE Main 2023 exam candidates are also
considered during JoSAA Counselling. The rank lists given by the JEE Apex
Board are used as they are without making any changes. This ensures
fairness, even if there are candidates with the same rank.

3. Categorization for Seat Allocation:Candidates are grouped
according to their disability and nationality for seat allocation.
Non-Indian nationals, except OCI/PIO cardholders who got their cards before
March 4, are labelled as foreign and cannot get seats through JoSAA in the
NIT+ system.

4. State Code of Eligibility: Candidates in the NIT+ system are given
a state code to be considered for seats in their states.

5. Program-Sections and Seat Distribution: Seats for academic
programs are distributed across various Program-Sections, such as OPEN,
GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, OPEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, and
ST-PwD. This ensures equitable representation and opportunities for
candidates from diverse backgrounds.

6. Seat Allocation: IITs vs NIT+ System: Admission to IITs is
determined by JEE Advanced 2023 rank, while in the NIT+ system, it relies on
JEE Main 2023 rank. The rank obtained by candidates greatly influences their
admission possibilities.

7. JoSAA Counselling Process Overview:

  • Step 1: Registration: Candidates must log in to the JoSAA portal
using their JEE Main 2023 roll number and password. After confirming
personal details, candidates proceed to the next step.
  • Step 2: Choice Filling: Candidates enter their preferred branches
and colleges in order of preference based on available choices.
  • Step 3: Choice Locking: Once choices are filled, candidates lock
their preferences and keep a printout for reference.
  • Step 4: Seat Allocation: Seats are allocated based on rank,
choices, and availability. Candidates can choose to Freeze, Float, or
    Slide their options.
  • Step 5: Document Verification: Candidates undergo online document
verification per the schedule to ensure their eligibility.
  • Step 6: Reporting at Institute: Candidates report to the allotted
institute, complete fee payment, and fulfil admission formalities.

8. Checking Seat Allocation:
Candidates must regularly log in to the JoSAA portal and check seat
allocation in each round. Monitoring it closely for timely action and
securing the desired seat is important.

9. Rejecting the Allocated Seat: Candidates can decline their
allocated seat by not completing the “Online Reporting” steps. This allows
them to consider other options or participate in later rounds of seat
allocation.

10. Seat Withdrawal Process:
If a candidate has accepted a seat in an IIT through JoSAA 2023, they can
withdraw it by reporting online. This ensures a fair seat allocation
process. Candidates can see the complete schedule of the JoSAA Counselling
