Around18 lakhs students write class X board exams in CBSE every year which itself shows the level of competition in education in India. Students these days start preparing for highly competitive entrance exams right after class X but there are also some exams which students can give while they are in class X. There are many scholarship exams conducted by various organisations that not only grant scholarships to meritorious students but also provides a platform to compete with the best brains at national level. In this article, we will discuss some of the prestigious examinations that every class X student should appear for.

  1. NTSE

National Talent and Search Examination is conducted every year by the NCERT in two stages. The first stage is conducted in November and the second stage is in May for the students who qualified first. The subjects from which questions are asked in the exam include: Maths, Social Science, Science, Mental Ability, and General Awareness. The finally selected candidates are awarded with a scholarship of Rs.1250 per month for class XI & XII, and Rs. 2000 for under graduates & above

  1. Indian National Olympiad

Indian National Olympiad is conducted by the “Indian Association of Physics Teachers” (IAPT) along with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education i.e. HBCSE. The olympiad is conducted in Physics, Chemistry, Junior Science, Biology, and Astronomy. It is usually conducted in April – June and National level winners are invited to participate in the International Olympiads.

  1. National Science Olympiad

NSO or the National Science Olympiad is conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation in the month of November. The toppers at the international level are awarded 50000 and a gold medal. NSO is conducted in subjects like Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, English and Sports

  1. NSTSE

National Science Talent Search Examination or NSTSE is organized by the Unified Council in the month of January. The exam tests the candidates knowledge in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and General Questions. The topper of the examination is awarded a scholarship of 200,000 rupees.

  1. NIMO

The National Interactive Math Olympiad or NIMO is generally held in August and December by the Eduheal Foundation. The exam tests the mathematical knowledge of the candidates. The toppers are awarded with a scholarship of 51000 rupees along with a gold medal. Students can visit the website of Eduheal foundation for more information regarding the exam.

  1. International English Olympiad

The International English Olympiad is also conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation. The examination is conducted in the month of October and critically tests the understanding of the subject. The international level topper is awarded with a scholarship of 50000 rupees along with a gold medal.

  1. GeoGenius

GeoGenius is an exam for students who love Geography. The exam is conducted by the “GeoGenius” in the month of December and April in two phases. The national toppers are awarded with a laptop from the Geogenius foundation.

  1. International Olympiad for English Language

The International Olympiad for English Language i.e. IOEL is conducted by the Silver Zone Foundation from November to December. The selected students are awarded with a scholarship of 100,000 rupees from the conducting organisation.

There are many more olympiads and other exams that students can participate in along with their class X. Some of the exams are specifically for Computer Science  and Biotechnology subjects that should be given by students having such subjects in school or preparing for them by their own.
