IIT’s: It is everyone’s aspiration to get enrolled in an IIT college. When students choose science as their 11th-grade subject, they want to join IIT after passing the 10th grade. However, to achieve this, one must pass the IIT JEE and earn high marks in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Math) in 12th grade. After that, dreams of attending IIT become reality. But how many people are aware of the uniqueness of IIT college? Let us tell you everything about it.

Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee)

IIT Roorkee is the oldest engineering institute in India. It was established in 1847 as the Civil Engineering College by James Thomson, Lieutenant-Governor of the North-Western Provinces. After this, in the year 1854, the designer and projector of Ganga Canal, Proby Kotli changed its name to Thomson College of Civil Engineering. Later in 1949 it was renamed as University of Roorkee and then again in 2001 as IIT Roorkee. Internet speed in IIT Roorkee is highest in India. The internet speed here is 6 times the average of India and more than the average of the world.

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi)

IIT Delhi was established in 1961. It was formally inaugurated by the Minister of Scientific Research and Culture, Prof. Humayun was done by Kabir. Its campus is currently spread over 320 acres (or 1.3 km 2 ). Its two more campuses are in Sonipat and Jhajjar. The roof of the Dogra Hall located in IIT Delhi rests on only two corners. No structure has been made for support in between.

Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi (IIT, BHU)

IIT (BHU) Varanasi was earlier known as Banaras Engineering College (BENCO), College of Mining and Metallurgy (MINMET), College of Technology (TECHNO) and Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU). The credit goes to the founder Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya for starting degree classes in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgy and Pharmaceutics in BHU. A fighter aircraft has been kept in the IIT, BHU campus since the year 1944 from the time of World War II.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur)

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur was established in 1959. It is one of the first Indian Institutes of Technology, which was created with the assistance of a consortium of nine American research universities under the Indo-American Program (KIAP). Under the guidance of economist John Kenneth Galbraith, IIT Kanpur was the first institute in India to offer computer science education. The first computer course was started in the institute in August 1963 on IBM 1620 system. On 1 June 2013, a helicopter ferry service was started at IIT Kanpur operated by Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited. IIT Kanpur is the first educational institute in the country to start such a service. Apart from this, there is also an airstrip for the students of aeronautical engineering to fly.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur)

IIT Kharagpur has got the status of Institute of Eminence from the Government of India. IIT Kharagpur’s campus is spread over 8.7-square-kilometre (2,100 acres) and houses approximately 22,000 people. Its area is more than three times that of Vatican City and Monaco City. Its class rooms, laboratories and administrative office were named Hijli Detention Camp (now known as Shaheed Bhawan). It was also called the headquarters of Bomber Command of the US 20th Air Force during World War II.

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay)

IIT Bombay was the second Indian Institute of Technology established in 1958 with contributions from UNESCO and the Soviet Union. Email service was started for the first time in India through this institute. The first e-mail was sent between the National Centre for Software Technology and IIT Bombay.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras)

IIT Madras was the third IIT established by the Government of India. IIT Madras is a residential institute, spread over a 2.5-square-kilometre (0.97 sq mi) campus. The institute launched the world’s first 4-year UG Bachelor of Science degree (BS) program in Data Science and Applications, which was earlier a 3-year BSc degree program in Programming and Data Science. India’s fastest supercomputer facility is present here.
