JEE-Mains 2022 attempts have possibility to be decreased by the Ministry of Education from 4 to 2 this year.

JEE-Mains 2022 likely to be held by the month of April-May.

Engineering undergraduate aspirants have been dealt with a blow of this year’s JEE-Main paper. National Talent Agency (NTA) the administrative body responsible for conducting JEE-Mains are likely to decrease the attempts this year from 4 to 2. NTA has also decided to conduct the entrance test only in April and May. The Ministry of Education (MoE) previously had decided to increase the number of attempts to 4 from 2021 onwards. As per reports, the MoE can maybe reduce the attempts to 2 due to the COVID crisis being stable this year compared to the previous year. Aspirants are advised to keep checking the official website and our blog page for this update.

According to the initial talks between officials of the ministry of health, MoE, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET-UG will now be scheduled between the third week of June and the first week of July. Approximately 26 lakh medical, engineering, and allied courses aspirants appeared for these examinations last year.

JEE-Main is a multi-session computer-based examination conducted by NTA. The aspirants take the test to secure a seat in top engineering institutions as well as secure the eligibility to appear for JEE (Advance), the entrance test for the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT). Top JEE Main rank scorers qualify for JEE Advanced which is the entrance examination for IITs all across the country. In 2021, the top 2,50,000 JEE Mains rank holders were allowed to appear for JEE Advanced. Through JEE Mains students get admission to engineering colleges like NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) among others.

In 2021, JEE Mains was conducted in 4 sessions-February, March, April and August-September. Candidates were having the upper hand to appear in each attempt and the best of their 4 attempts scores were considered as the candidate’s final score. Initially, only 1 attempt was allowed in JEE Mains exam but it was increased to 2 attempts in 2019 and finally, 4 attempts were allowed in JEE Mains 2021. Increase in attempts showed that the aspirants were significantly profited by it in high-pressure examination revealed by several studies. The MoE decision for 4 attempts in 2021 was taken by keeping in mind the mental health of the students amid the COVID crisis and ensuring that the pandemic doesn’t hamper their studies.

According to multiple sources and news reports, the official stated that the main reason for offering 4 attempts in 2021 was due to the ongoing COVID crisis.

“Situation was different due to the second wave. However, things have improved and based on the current situation, it has been decided that two attempts would be as beneficial. The registration will start by the end of this month.”

Additionally, sources also revealed that another reason for it is due to the delay in most examinations, including the class XII Board exams; the window for entrance has shrunk if admissions are to be conducted on time in 2022. The CBSE class XII board exams are set to commence from April 26 onwards, with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations opting to conduct exams from the last week of April this year.
