JEE Mains and JEE advanced are entrance examinations conducted for admission in top engineering colleges in India. These two examinations are very famous among science stream students. Most of the students start preparing for JEE along with their Board classes. Few students are those who start their JEE preparation from class 7th, 8th or 9th. If you are aspiring to get admission in top engineering colleges of India then you must know the difference between JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.
Significant difference between JEE Mains and JEE Advanced
- Both the exams are entrance examinations for admission in top engineering colleges. But by qualifying JEE Advanced you will get admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) while by qualifying JEE Mains you will get admission in National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other centrally funded engineering colleges.
- JEE Advanced is conducted by IITs while JEE Mains is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). NTA used to conduct JEE Mains before 2019. But from 2019 onwards Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSSA) is conducting JEE Mains paper.
- JEE Mains is of total 360 marks out of which 120 marks for physics, 120 for chemistry and 120 for mathematics. That means the JEE Mains paper consists of three sections and each section consists of 30 questions. Question types are MCQs and each question carries +4 marks and -1 mark. Pattern of JEE Mains is always fixed that it consists of 90 questions and carries +4 marks and negative marking is fixed that is -1 mark for each question. While JEE Advanced consists of two papers of total 306 marks. Each paper has 183 marks. Pattern of questions in JEE Advanced is not fixed. In JEE Mains only one answer is correct out of four options while in JEE Advanced more than one option is correct. IN JEE Advanced different types of questions come like the following and you have to solve questions and then you have to write answers in integers or in decimal as per asked in questions. Marking pattern of JEE Advanced is very different. Each part has a different marking style. Partial markings are also present.
- Both exams have different levels and JEE Advanced is very difficult as compared to JEE Mains. Hence, students need to prepare accordingly.
- JEE Advanced is conducted for all students Indians as well as foreigners while JEE Mains is conducted only for Indian students. For foreigners there is a special scheme named DASA to get admission in NITs or centrally funded colleges.
For both exams you need to prepare in a well-mannered way. You had to do a lot of work while preparing. You need to practice questions, you can solve previous year papers, you can give mock tests.
