National Medical Commission has decided to remove the upper age limit for NEET UG. And with the age criteria removed, aspirants can now appear in the medical entrance exam as many times and even after taking admission to other courses because learning never ends. A great decision taken by NMC (National Medical Commission) which will positively impact the NEET aspirants.

This decision was announced by NMC (National Medical Commission) on 9th of March 2022, but Secretary of the National Medical Commission Dr Pulkesh Kumar said that the decision was made at a meeting held in October last year in 2021. This initiative will give an unbiased chance to maximum students willing to pursue MBBS.

Earlier, upper age limit was 25 years for General category and 30 years for SC/ST/OBCs category with relaxation of 5 years put up by CBSE (Central Board of secondary Education) to appear in NEET UG. But now since the upper age limit for NEET UG has been removed, this decision will greatly help the aspirants who may have missed the exam because of age cutoff due to exam delayed or postponed.

Pulkesh Kumar, NMC Secretary, said, “It has been decided that there should not be any fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NET-UG examination. Therefore the information bulletin may be modified accordingly. The process for official notification to suitably amend the regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997, to this effect has been initiated”.

In simple words, anyone at any age now can take the NEET UG exam.

But now the competition will be tougher than ever before, since this initiative would further increase the group of aspirants taking the NEET UG test in India.

Overall, a great move taken by the officials, now the country will see people in their late 20s and 30s competing for MBBS seat in Government Medical college and fulfill their lifelong dream of becoming a doctor which they couldn’t do before because of the age criteria. This decision also helps in strengthening medical education in the country.
