The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test abbreviated as NEET UG is a national level entrance examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for the students aspiring to get admitted to the medical colleges across country. The exam opens gateway to some of the renowned medical colleges of the country providing admission to various medical courses like MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, BUMS, etc.

The talks of conducting the national level exam twice a year or in multiple shifts have been in the news for some time now. Earlier it was believed that the exam will be held in multiple session this year but no concrete solution regarding the same has come out. Hence, the exam will not be held in multiple sessions in 2021. However, it might be possible that NEET UG 2022 will be held in multiple sessions.

The decision will be based on the consultation between the two ministries i.e., Ministry of Health and Ministry of Health and family welfare. Both the ministries with a jointly discuss on conducting NEET UG twice a year. If the consultations find some solid grounds, it can be expected for NEET UG to be held twice a year from 2022 itself. Currently, Joint Entrance Examination abbreviated JEE is conducted in multiple phases in a year and candidates can appear in all the sessions. Last year, it was held twice a year, but due to the current circumstances emerged due to the pandemic, the exam will be conducted in 4 sessions this year out of which 3 sessions have been conducted successfully by NTA. The session in which candidates has scored highest marks is considered and final result declared will be based on the same. If the plan of conducting NEET UG comes out, similar pattern can be expected for it.

As per the current standards, the exam is held once in a year in a pen and paper/ offline mode. Students are also demanding for multiple sessions as this gives them more flexibility and less chances of dropping a year if they skip one of the session due to some reasons. This will also allow them to give their best possible performance. Several student bodies also wrote letter to Ministry of Education after the decision of conducting JEE Main 4 times this year was announced due to the ongoing pandemic. They have requested for the similar practice to be followed in conducting NEET UG or other entrance examinations.

NEET UG 2021 notifications are out and the registration process began on July 13. Last date for the application was August 10 and the correction window for application will be available from 12 – 14 August, 2 pm IST on the official website of NTA NEET UG. Here, candidates will be able to make required changes in their application details, choice of exam centre, Photo, Signature and others. The exam will be conducted on 12 September, 2021.
