It is conducted by National Testing Agency i.e. NTA every year in pen and paper mode. Previously, AIIMS and JIPMER had separate entrance examinations but from 2020 onwards, NEET remains the only medical entrance examination. There were about 1.18 lakh MBBS and BDS seats available by NEET 2020 out of which 41388 MBBS seats were present in government medical colleges.

Students should also note that some of the chapters are weighed higher in the examination seeing the previous question papers. In Physics, a lot of questions come from Optics, Rotational Mechanics, Current Electricity. Looking into Chemistry, more emphasis is given on Physical Chemistry over Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry comparatively. Zoology and Applied Biology have an edge over Botany in the Biology section if we look into the number of questions asked from this section.
