NEET is the only entrance examination for students aspiring for MBBS, BDS or other undergraduate programs offered by the recognized medical colleges ( including JIPMER and AIIMS ) of the country. It is conducted by National Testing Agency i.e. NTA every year in pen and paper mode. Previously, AIIMS and JIPMER had separate entrance examinations but from 2020 onwards, NEET remains the only medical entrance examination. There were about 1.18 lakh MBBS and BDS seats available by NEET 2020 out of which 41388 MBBS seats were present in government medical colleges.
Eligibility Criteria for NEET
Students should carefully check if they are eligible to appear in NEET before they start preparing for the examination. Below is the eligibility criteria of NEET 2020 and NEET 2021 might have similar criteria:
- Age Limit: The minimum age to appear for NEET is 17 years. The candidate should have attained this age on or before 31 December of the year of admission. The maximum age to be eligible for NEET is not yet decided.
- Qualification: Students should have passed the Class XII examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology, and English as mandatory subjects. Students should also have obtained minimum marks ( in PCB subjects ) as per their category:
- General: 50 %
- PwD: 45 %
- SC / ST / OBC: 40 %
- Nationality: Students aspiring for NEET should belong to either of the following:
- Indian National

Candidates who are currently studying in Class XII and waiting for the results are also eligible to apply for the exam. Also, There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can attempt NEET.
NEET Syllabus & Important Topics
The syllabus of NEET is vast and includes the chapters from Class XI and Class XII syllabus of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Biology has the highest weightage in the exam accounting for 50 % of the questions. The syllabus for NEET is given below:

Students should also note that some of the chapters are weighed higher in the examination seeing the previous question papers. In Physics, a lot of questions come from Optics, Rotational Mechanics, Current Electricity. Looking into Chemistry, more emphasis is given on Physical Chemistry over Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry comparatively. Zoology and Applied Biology have an edge over Botany in the Biology section if we look into the number of questions asked from this section.
