To score 99 percentile in the JEE Mains 2nd attempt, you should target 180 to 200 marks in the exam. If you are planning to improve your score and percentile in the second attempt of JEE Main 2023, here are some tips that will help you:

  • Analyze where you stand: The first step is to analyze your previous attempt and know your strengths and weaknesses. You can do this by going through your answer sheet and the question paper, and checking which topics you need to work on. You can use chapter mind maps to make this analysis easy for you.
  • Prepare a study plan: As you know your strengths and weaknesses now, make a plan to focus on the concepts that you found difficult in the first attempt. Solve a few practice questions to check your understanding of the concept. Since many questions in JEE mains can be solved using the formulae, so keep revising your formulae on daily basis. For that use your self made compendium or revision notes.
  • Practice Mock tests: Make a habit of solving about one mock test daily. Check the areas where you have made mistake and work on them. Eventually your score will start to improve in mock tests. If your score is not improving, check if you are spending a lot of time on certain types of questions. Start avoiding those questions and keep them for the last.
  • Solve previous year papers: Solve previous year papers to get an idea of the type of questions asked in the exam. This will help you understand the exam pattern and prepare accordingly. You should attempt pyqs at least of 2021 and 2022. With JEE happening across around 16 slots every year, we have a lot of past year papers to acquaint ourselves with. These paper will also give you an idea of what type of questions are coming from each chapter. So you can attempt PYQs chapterwise or also as a full mock test.
  • Follow the pattern: After solving a few mock tests you will get familiar with the pattern of the exam and types of questions. Figure out in which sequence you should attempt sections so as to increase your speed and accuracy. Stick to that routine and follow the same pattern on the exam day. Try to solve the questions you know first and then move on to the difficult ones. As a practice we suggest students to start with Chemistry, then go to Physics and finally Math. This ensures that you have solved more questions in the first few minutes or one hour of the exam and that boosts your confidence and reduces stress during the exam. Mainly because Chemistry questions on an average take half the time to solve compared to Math questions.
  • Revise the syllabus as much you can. Make short notes, especially in Physics as many the questions are super easy and formula based. The goal should be thorough in all the chapters which are considered easy. For Chemistry you should revise NCERT properly, as almost all questions come directly from there, especially for Inorganic Chemistry.
  • Avoid taking up new books or start any new chapter just before the exam as this is going to spoil your confidence level. Since JEE is an exam where you don’t need to score 100% marks or 95% marks like Board exams, so you can leave a few chapters if needed. Mastery of most chapters is more important than a decent command of all chapters. In the exam anyway most students can’t attempt more than 55-60 questions out of 75. So there is no point stressing over a few chapters. Focus on your strengths mainly.

Last but not the least, avoid distractions and negative thoughts and stay positive and motivated. Also keep yourself updated with the latest news and notifications related to the exam, such as exam dates, application deadlines, and changes in the exam pattern. Remember that improving your score and percentile in the second attempt of JEE Main 2023 requires planning as well besides consistent hard work and dedication. Keep practicing and stay focused on your goal, and you will be able to improve your percentile in the upcoming JEE Main exam.

Good luck!
