Aspiring medical students often find it challenging to crack the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) and secure admission to an MBBS program in India. However, several foreign universities accept NEET scores for admissions, providing students with an opportunity to study medicine abroad.
Russia is a popular destination for Indian students pursuing medical degrees, with approximately 18,039 Indian students enrolled in Russian universities in 2022. To be eligible for an MBBS degree in Russia, candidates must have a NEET score of at least 50 percentile. There are approximately 70 universities in Russia that offer medical programs, including Tver State Medical University, Stavropol State Medical University, Volgograd State Medical University, and more.
Kazakhstan is another popular destination for Indian students seeking to study medicine abroad. Out of 3,855 candidates, 558 cleared the screening test for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) in 2021. To be eligible for an MBBS degree in Kazakhstan, Indian candidates should have a NEET qualifier score. Some popular medical colleges in Kazakhstan include Karaganda Medical University, Jsc National Medical University, and West Kazakhstan State Medical University Named After Marat Ospanov.
Poland is also a preferred destination for Indian students pursuing medical degrees. In 2022, approximately 5,000 Indian students were studying in Polish universities. To be eligible for an MBBS program in Poland, Indian candidates should have passed the NEET exam. Popular medical universities in Poland include Collegium Medicum Jagiellonian University, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, and Medical University of Gdansk.
Nepal offers affordable medical education for Indian students. While Nepal may not be a popular study abroad destination, it has several medical colleges, including the College of Medical Sciences Bharatpur and National Medical College Birgunj. To study an MBBS course in Nepal, candidates must qualify for the entrance test or achieve a 50 percentile on their NEET scores.
Bangladesh is another country where Indian students can pursue an MBBS program. In 2021, out of 922 FMGE students, only 370 cleared the screening test from Bangladesh-based colleges. While the usual cut-off for general category students is believed to be 715-117, all universities have different cut-offs. Some popular medical colleges in Bangladesh include the Institute of Applied Health Sciences, East West Medical College, and Kumudini Women’s Medical College.
China was a popular destination for medical students before the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, 2,580 candidates cleared the screening test out of 13,427 candidates who appeared for the FMGE exam. Several Chinese universities, such as Anhui Medical University and China Medical University, accept NEET scores for admissions. Typically, Indian candidates must have a NEET qualifier score or a NEET score of 200-250.
