JEE Main and Advanced are the entrance examinations to secure a seat in the best engineering colleges of the country. Around 1 million students appear for the JEE Main exam every year from which the top 250000 students of respective categories are eligible for JEE Advanced. Seeing the rigorous competition, students should develop a right strategy to master the concepts and score better marks in the exam. Students should have a separate style for all three subjects as they require a different approach. Physics is more about derivations and practical approach to learn things around us while chemistry sometimes requires memorization and continuous revision along with understanding of concepts at molecular level. Mathematics, on the other hand, requires practice to be mastered.

Some things that can not be ignored by students preparing for JEE Main & Advanced are:

Past Year Questions

Students should always solve the past year questions of a topic just after they have studied it. Although, chances of a question getting repeated in JEE exam is very low but this helps in understanding what type of questions are asked in the exam and what is its difficulty level. This is utmost important and can never be ignored as it builds confidence and ability to solve the type of questions asked in JEE Main and Advanced.

Read NCERTs

Ignoring NCERTs could lead students into big trouble as sometimes questions are directly asked in exams, especially JEE Main. Students are advised to go through the NCERTs at least one in a proper manner. There have been many instances of questions asked directly from NCERT, specially in Chemistry part of JEE Main. Also, reading NCERT would help in clearing doubts.

Practice Questions

One of the key factors behind success in JEE examinations is practice. Students should daily solve problems of the topics they have learnt. Not a single topic should be passed on without solving problems and just learning the concepts. Also, students are advised to have a good sitting time of around 3 hours while solving questions. Developing a habit of long sitting hours of study will be beneficial as JEE Advanced not only tests analytical capability but also requires  hours of question solving in a day.

Other thing that should be followed is to solve various types of questions as asked in JEE like Numerical Value type question, multiple correct answer type questions, etc.

Mock Tests

Once prepared with a sufficient part of syllabus, aspirants should keep testing themselves by partial syllabus tests of full length given in exam simulated environment. This helps in understanding the weakness and the topics which require extra hours. A thing that is must for all aspirants is to analyse the paper after attempting it. The mistakes done by them in the paper could be a very silly mistake like a calculation error to a complete conceptual mistake. Students must ensure that such mistakes do not happen in next tests and revise the weaker areas.

Revision

Another important factor of success in the exams is revision. Students are advised to maintain a notebook to write short notes. This is always helpful when a quick revision is required in case of confusion and also helps as a second round of learning for students while they are writing the important things. Revision should not only be about reading the topics of past chapters but should also involve rigorous question solving of those chapters. Revision has to be a continuous process and should not be done occasionally or else students may lose a touch of the past chapters.

Apart from these, there are some other things that will be helpful for the students like:

Proper Biological Clock: Students are advised to have a proper study timetable that suits their capability. Having a sound sleep is also very important to get a proper understanding of the topics and all activities should be done to keep yourself fresh.

SWOT Analysis: Students should be well aware of their strengths and weaknesses and have a proper strategy of answering questions during the exam and this practice should be developed even while attempting the mock tests.

Healthy Body:  Students have to extremely take care of their health and not allow themselves to fall sick. This should be given first priority above all as it would cause a loss in many ways, compensating which will be very difficult. Being healthy is not only about physical health but also mental health as stress could slow down the learning process, therefore stress should be avoided and prepare happily for the examination.
