The Central Board of Secondary Education is most likely to conduct class 12th examinations of 2021 from July 15 to August 26. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will issue the final CBSE 12th date sheet 2021 on June 1 after the board holds a review meeting to assess the feasibility of conducting exams. The board exams will be conducted in an offline/ pen and paper format.

As per the sources, the CBSE has proposed holding exams between July 15 and August 26, with results expected in September. On June 1st, the final decision will be announced.

The exams, on the other hand, will not be conducted in accordance with standard procedure. The CBSE has recommended that exams can be held only for a few subjects or for 1.5 hours instead of three hours. In a meeting between high-profile ministers and state education secretaries held the previous day, the majority of states favoured the latter choice. If the board decides to conduct exams for 1.5 hours instead of 3 hours, the exam pattern will be modified as well. Students may be asked MCQs and very short answer-type questions during a 90-minute exam to enable them to finish the exam on time.

“The exams will be conducted in same schools where students are enrolled and the duration will be reduced to 90 minutes. The questions will be objective and very short answer types. Students will have to appear in one language and three elective subjects. The first phase of exams, under this option, will tentatively begin from July 15 to August 1 and the second phase from August 8-26. Exams are proposed to be conducted on Sundays too,” an official source informed PTI.

If a student fails to attempt an exam due to Covid 19-related problems, they will be given the option to retake the exam at a later date, such as after 15 days; however, whether or not this option will be available will be determined on June 1. Furthermore, the exams will adhere to the COVID 19 protocols and guidelines. When it comes to make students write tests, social distancing would be followed. The CBSE board exams were conducted in 2020 as well with precautions, but some had to be cancelled in the middle.

While the majority of states agreed with the minister’s recommendations, others, such as Maharashtra and Delhi, have expressed open dissent to the decision. By May 25, these states must submit specific proposals.

Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, said that holding the exams in the midst of the pandemic might prove to be a big mistake and a failure. He also requested that all students in Class 12 be vaccinated before taking the exams. He suggested that we consult Pfizer (whose children’s vaccine has been approved by many countries) or offer our own vaccine after consulting experts, given that they are 17.5 years old and just months away from turning 18. However, people who have reached the age of 18 are qualified to be vaccinated.

Maharashtra had also proposed a non-exam method for assessing Class 12 students. Maharashtra State School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had said, “Health and mental well-being of children, their families must be our priority. Since most professional courses hold entrance exams for admissions, many experts are of the view that it is possible to evaluate the performance of a class 12th student based on a retroactive assessment model.”
