Every academic year top 2.5 lakh rank holders of JEE Main are eligible to write the JEE Advance. Very few know that several IITs also offer courses for which the candidates can apply without opting for JEE Advanced.

When it comes to getting admission to the top engineering colleges of the country – Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the conventional way is to crack the entrance exam, JEE Advanced. Each year, the top 2.5 lakh rank holders of JEE Main are entitled to apply for JEE Advanced. But few people know that several IITs also offer admission through different routes. This helps the candidates in keeping their IIT dream alive and has a better future ahead.

While design courses are available through CEED, there are many engineering courses in which candidates can get admission without sitting for JEE Advanced or IIT admissions. Below are the lists of such courses that the interested candidates can pursue:

BSc Data Science from IIT Madras

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is offering BSc in Programming and Data Science to class 11, 12 students, college students, working professionals and those seeking a career change. Students who have passed class 11th by May 2022 or are currently in class 12th can apply for the qualifying process. If they clear this process, they can start coursework after completing the 12th standard.

Also, the learners who are eligible for JEE Advanced 2021 can directly join the course. There is no limit on the number of seats and hence anyone who qualifies can enter the programme. The last date to apply is 20 April.

IIT Guwahati Masters in Liberal Arts

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is providing a Master’s program in Liberal Arts from the academic year 2022-2023. There will be 30 students in the first batch. As part of the curriculum, students will learn the concepts such as geospatial analysis, digital humanities, international relations, diplomacy, the study of local literature and languages, field studies, etc.

Olympiad qualifiers

Students who qualify for International Olympiads can directly take admission in IITs without clearing JEE Advanced. As per initial reports, IITs are considering admitting students who have participated in internationally renowned Olympiads based on their performance in the competition. Meanwhile, in 2018, IIT-Bombay allowed candidates who had qualified for the International Mathematics Olympiad to apply directly for its B.Sc Mathematics course.

Several short term certificate courses

IIT Bombay Certificate Program in Design Thinking: This five-month course is designed to help businesses innovate and transform the way they develop their products, services, operations and corporate strategy. Candidates who have completed a Graduation or Diploma from any stream with one-year work experience are eligible to apply for the course.

IIT Roorkee Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: IIT-Roorkee’s six-month online certificate targets to teach advanced techniques about machine learning. The curriculum covers the skills needed to build deep learning models as well as artificial intelligence applications. This course is available on Coursera for a fee of Rs.112,500.

IIT Madras Artificial Intelligence Knowledge Representation and Logic: This 12 weeks course is offered for both UG and PG students. The course covers formalisms for logic and associated algorithms. This course is a companion to another program – Artificial Intelligence: Search Methods for Problem Solving – and both of these courses are available online on their own.

However, candidates must be clear about the fact that these courses are subsidiary courses which one can pursue to improve their professional skills. To learn the basics of engineering, candidates have to prepare for JEE to learn the primary skills to create and innovate things. These courses will only let you improve your skills but to have a bright future ahead in life students need to pursue proper engineering education or rather clear JEE Main to get admitted to top engineering institutes.
